Islamabad: In the wake of the deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that left 26 people dead, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed readiness for a “neutral investigation” into the incident. Sharif stated that Pakistan is open to cooperating in uncovering the truth and ensuring accountability, as international concern grows over the rising tensions in the region.
Pakistan is willing to take part in any investigation that is neutral, transparent, and credible, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated while addressing a ceremony at the military academy in Abbottabad.
Pakistani Forces Ready to Defend Sovereignty, Says Official
A senior official reaffirmed that Pakistan’s armed forces remain fully capable and prepared to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He cited the country’s “measured yet resolute” response to India’s “reckless incursion” in February 2019 as clear evidence of Pakistan’s readiness to respond to any provocation or misadventure.
In the aftermath of the tragic terrorist attack in Baisaran near Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 individuals—mostly civilians—tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated significantly.
Reacting to the crisis, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif stated in an interview with The New York Times that Islamabad is “ready to cooperate” with any investigation led by international inspectors.
Following this, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued remarks echoing the willingness to engage with global inquiry efforts, marking a notable shift in Islamabad’s stance on international collaboration in counter-terrorism matters.
In a swift and stern response to the attack, the Indian government announced a series of measures targeting Pakistan. These include the suspension of the historic Indus Waters Treaty, the closure of the Integrated Check Post at the Attari-Wagah border, and a significant downsizing of the Pakistani High Commission staff based in India.
The developments mark a serious diplomatic fallout and underline India’s toughened stance against cross-border terrorism.
All Pakistani nationals who entered India through the Attari land border have been instructed to leave the country by May 1, according to official sources.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif alleged that India is using a recent terror attack as a pretext to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty for “domestic political purposes.” Speaking to The New York Times, Asif claimed that New Delhi took punitive actions against Islamabad “without any proof or investigation.”
“We do not want this war to escalate, because any escalation could lead to disaster for the entire region,” Asif emphasized during his interview.
PM Modi Issues Stern Warning to Pahalgam Terrorists: “Will Pursue Them to the Ends of the Earth”
In a powerful statement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed strong action against those responsible for the recent deadly terror attack in Pahalgam. Speaking from Bihar, the Prime Minister emphasized India’s unwavering commitment to defeating terrorism.
“Today, from the soil of Bihar, I send a message to the entire world — India will identify, track, and punish every terrorist and their supporters,” said PM Modi. “We will pursue them to the ends of the Earth. The spirit of India will never be broken by terrorism, and terrorism will not go unpunished.”
The Prime Minister’s remarks underline New Delhi’s firm stance against terrorism and its resolve to bring the perpetrators to justice.
He issued a stern warning, stating that the terrorists involved, along with those who conspired in the attack, will face a punishment far greater than they could ever imagine.
