Indian Army Responds Promptly and Proportionately to Pakistan’s Small Arms Firing

Pakistani troops once again violated the ceasefire agreement on Monday night, marking the 11th consecutive instance of such activity along multiple sectors of the Line of Control (LoC) and the international border in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Indian Army has confirmed that it responded swiftly and in equal measure to small arms firing initiated by Pakistan along the Line of Control. Officials emphasized that the action was “prompt and proportionate,” aimed at safeguarding national security and maintaining peace in the region

According to official reports, unprovoked small arms fire was observed across various sectors, including areas opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajouri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor. The firing triggered a swift and proportionate response from the Indian Army, which remains on high alert along the border.

The repeated ceasefire breaches have raised concerns over stability in the region, even as security forces continue to maintain strict vigilance and readiness to counter any further provocations.

Tensions flared along the Line of Control as the Indian Army reported that Pakistani troops initiated unprovoked firing across five border districts in Jammu and Kashmir. The incidents were recorded in Jammu, Rajouri, and Poonch districts—located south of the Pir Panjal ranges in the Jammu region—as well as in Baramulla and Kupwara districts in the Kashmir Valley. The army is maintaining heightened vigilance and closely monitoring the situation across all affected sectors.

Tensions along the Line of Control (LoC) have flared up once again, with reports of unprovoked ceasefire violations by Pakistani forces. What began as “unprovoked small arms firing” at several Indian Army posts quickly intensified, spreading to multiple sectors across the border.

Ceasefire Violated Again

According to defense sources, firing incidents were later reported in the Sunderbani and Naushera sectors of Rajouri district, as well as the Pargwal sector in Jammu. The Indian Army is said to have responded appropriately to the aggression.

The escalation follows a horrific terror attack in the Pahalgam region of Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 people—mostly tourists—were killed. The incident has sparked outrage and concern across India. New Delhi has claimed to have uncovered evidence of cross-border involvement in the attack, suggesting links to Pakistan-based terror outfits.

In response, Islamabad has denied any role in the attack and has called for a “neutral” third-party investigation to verify the facts.

The latest developments have further strained the already fragile peace along the LoC, raising fears of a larger conflict if diplomatic efforts do not resume swiftly.

UN Security Council to Hold Closed-Door Meeting on India-Pakistan Tensions

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is scheduled to hold closed consultations on Monday to discuss the rising tensions between India and Pakistan. The meeting has been convened at the request of Pakistan, which is currently serving as a non-permanent member of the Council.

The UNSC comprises 15 members, including five permanent members with veto power – China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States – along with ten non-permanent members: Algeria, Denmark, Greece, Guyana, Pakistan, Panama, South Korea, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, and Somalia.

The diplomatic push comes in the wake of an alleged terrorist attack on April 22 in the Pahalgam area of Kashmir, which has further strained relations between the two South Asian neighbors.

In a related development, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov conveyed to his Pakistani counterpart that Russia is willing to facilitate a political resolution to the ongoing tensions. “It was stressed that Russia is ready to act for a political settlement of the situation resulting from the act of terrorism of April 22 in the Pahalgam area of the Kashmir Valley, in the event of a mutual desire on the part of Islamabad and New Delhi,” said the Russian Foreign Ministry in a statement shared on Telegram.

The UNSC meeting will be closely watched for any signals of international engagement or mediation efforts in the volatile situation.
