The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) reports the death of a 60-year-old woman due to acute intestinal obstruction following a laparotomy, with COVID-19 detected incidentally.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Delhi reported 294 active COVID-19 cases today, marking an increase of 56 cases since yesterday. One death was also recorded — a 60-year-old woman who had undergone a laparotomy for acute intestinal obstruction. COVID-19 was detected incidentally in her case.
On May 23, the Delhi Government released an advisory directing hospitals to stay prepared by ensuring the availability of beds, oxygen supply, essential medicines, and functional equipment such as ventilators and BiPAP machines.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reassured the public last week that there was no cause for alarm, emphasizing that hospitals are well-equipped to handle any possible rise in Covid-19 cases.
“We are fully informed about the current situation. Our hospitals are well-prepared with all necessary facilities, and an advisory has already been issued,” she told the media. “After a thorough review of the scenario, we can confidently say there is no reason to panic.
Several Indian states have reported a rise in COVID-19 cases, attributed to the newly identified sub-variants NB.1.8.1 and LF.7. These variants have undergone mutations and exhibit genetic differences from earlier strains.
Health authorities are actively monitoring the spread of these variants, which the World Health Organization (WHO) has designated as “Variants Under Monitoring” rather than “Variants of Concern.” In response to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases, several state governments have issued advisories to address the evolving situation.
At present, the situation is not serious and there is no cause for concern,” said Dr. Rajiv Behl, Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), as quoted by PTI. “While we should remain alert and prepared, there is no need for the public to take any immediate action. People should continue following standard precautions, and there are no special measures required at this time.
