Air Hostess Alleges Sexual Assault in ICU, Claims Nurses Witnessed Incident But Took No Action
A 46-year-old air hostess has alleged that she was sexually assaulted by a hospital staff member while she was on a ventilator in the ICU at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. According to a report by The Times of India, the woman claimed that two nurses were present in the room during the incident but failed to intervene.
The assault reportedly took place while the woman was in a vulnerable state, receiving treatment in the intensive care unit. Authorities have been alerted, and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and the role of hospital staff.
According to the police, a woman from West Bengal who had traveled to the city to attend a workshop was hospitalized after falling ill. The illness reportedly began after she went for a swim in the pool at the hotel where she was staying.
Investigators reported that the woman arrived in Gurugram on March 31 to attend a training program organized by an airline operator in Darbaripur, Sector 75.
A flight attendant was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on April 5 and was discharged this past Sunday, according to her complaint.
In her statement, she alleged that on April 6, while she was on a ventilator, some members of the hospital staff sexually assaulted her.
She was unable to speak or resist the man’s actions due to her frail state. Although two nurses were present in the room at the time, they did not step in, according to the FIR cited by the Times of India.
After being discharged from the hospital on April 13, the air hostess informed her husband about the incident and subsequently filed a complaint at the Sadar police station. A case was registered the following day under charges of molestation and other applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Medanta Hospital, in its statement, said it has been fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation. The hospital added that, as of now, no allegations have been substantiated.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Gaurav, stated that due to the seriousness of the allegations, a special investigation team has been formed under the leadership of Sadar ACP Yashwant. The team has obtained CCTV footage from the hospital and is currently questioning staff members who may have had contact with the patient during her time there.
He also mentioned that the investigation is being pursued from every possible angle. Given the sensitive nature of the case, he said that no further information could be shared at this point.
