In response to rising tensions between India and Pakistan, Delhi conducted a comprehensive mock drill on Friday, simulating wartime scenarios to test the city’s emergency preparedness. The exercise, part of the nationwide ‘Operation Abhyaas’, aimed to familiarize civilians with protocols during potential aerial threats.
At precisely 3:00 PM, air raid sirens were activated at the Public Works Department Headquarters at ITO, marking the commencement of the drill. The sirens, audible across a 5-kilometer radius, were sounded multiple times over a 15-20 minute period. District Magistrate (Central) G. Sudhakar urged residents to remain calm and not to panic during the exercise.
The Delhi government announced plans to install 40 such high-range sirens throughout the city, enhancing the existing civil defense infrastructure. These sirens are designed to alert the public promptly in case of actual emergencies, ensuring timely evacuations and safety measures.
The mock drill also encompassed blackout simulations, evacuation procedures, and first-aid training sessions. Citizens were educated on identifying shelter locations, preparing emergency kits, and responding effectively to siren alerts. The initiative emphasized the importance of community participation in bolstering national security measures.
This exercise follows a series of missile and drone attacks from across the border, with Indian defense systems successfully intercepting all threats. In light of these developments, similar drills are being conducted across various cities, including Lucknow and Mumbai, to ensure nationwide preparedness.
For more information on emergency protocols and upcoming drills, residents are encouraged to follow official government channels and advisories.
