Weather Update: Partly Cloudy Skies and No Rain Expected in Delhi; Heatwave Conditions Persist in Rajasthan
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast partly cloudy skies for Delhi on Sunday, with no rain expected. Clear skies are anticipated until April 24, and no heatwave warning has been issued for the region at this time.
On Saturday, the IMD predicted light rain and thunderstorms, accompanied by strong winds and dust storms. The forecast also mentioned sustained wind speeds of 40-50 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 60 km/h. Following this, Delhi is expected to experience partly cloudy conditions on Sunday, with no significant rainfall.
On Friday evening, gusty winds and rain brought some relief from the heat in parts of Delhi, with stations such as Narela, Pitampura, and Mayur Vihar recording 0.5 mm of rainfall. Temperatures dropped sharply from 36°C to 27°C in Pusa, and similarly from 37°C to 27°C in Pitampura and Mayur Vihar.
Despite the cooling effects of the rain, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 41°C on Friday, which is 4.2°C above normal. The minimum temperature was 25.6°C, also 4°C above the seasonal average, according to the regional met office.
Heatwave Conditions Continue in Rajasthan
Rajasthan remains under the grip of intense heat, with several regions recording maximum temperatures exceeding 45°C on Friday. However, the IMD has predicted that strong winds and dust storms beginning April 20 may bring some relief from the sweltering conditions.
Cities such as Churu, Ganganagar, and Chittorgarh recorded highs of 45.4°C, 45.2°C, and 45.1°C, respectively. Other regions, including Kota, Pilani, Barmer, and Jaisalmer, also saw temperatures above 44°C. Over the next 48 hours, the Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions are expected to experience strong winds between 30 and 40 km/h, with dust storms providing temporary relief.
Heatwave conditions are expected to persist in parts of Rajasthan, particularly in the Jodhpur, Bikaner, and Kota divisions, with daytime temperatures likely to drop by 2-4°C from April 20.
