Gujarat Titans (GT) secured their third victory of IPL 2025 on Sunday, defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by seven wickets. After a tough start to the season with an 11-run loss to Punjab Kings, the 2022 IPL champions have bounced back with three consecutive wins, showcasing their resilience. SRH, known for their explosive batting, were restricted to just 152/8 in 20 overs by GT’s disciplined bowling attack.
In response, Gujarat Titans chased down the target comfortably in 16.4 overs, with skipper Shubman Gill leading the way. Gill remained unbeaten on 61 off 43 balls, guiding his team to victory. His solid knock, along with an all-round team effort, helped GT maintain their momentum.
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly took to X (formerly Twitter) to commend GT’s head coach, Ashish Nehra, for his leadership and strategic acumen. Ganguly praised Nehra’s “tremendous game sense” and highlighted the collective cricketing intelligence in the Gujarat Titans’ setup.
“Like the way Gujarat has gone about their job in IPL since the first season. There is a lot of cricket brain in their team setup and their approach. Ashish Nehra has really shown his qualities as head coach… tremendous game sense,” Ganguly tweeted.
Mohammad Siraj played a pivotal role with the ball, producing a match-winning spell of 4/17, his career-best IPL figures, as Gujarat restricted SRH to a modest total. Left-arm spinner R Sai Kishore (2/24) and seamer Prasidh Krishna (2/25) also put in strong performances on a slow pitch.
GT’s chase was propelled by Shubman Gill’s half-century, and Washington Sundar’s composed 49 from 29 balls. Sundar, sent in at number four, showcased his maturity and class, ensuring the chase was completed with 20 balls to spare.
After the win, GT captain Shubman Gill emphasized the importance of bowling in T20 cricket. “Bowlers are game-changers, especially in this format. A lot of people talk about big-hitters, but bowlers win you games. We wanted to play shots all along the ground; that was the plan between me and Washington Sundar,” Gill said.
He continued, “The way Washington batted today was fantastic. There wasn’t much conversation, it was just about playing good cricketing shots. Once we had a 30-40 run partnership, it was all about taking the game from there. The energy Mohammed Siraj brings, both while bowling and fielding, is infectious.”
With this victory, Gujarat Titans continue to build momentum and remain strong contenders in IPL 2025.
