In a major boost to local tourism, 10,000 sq. meters of land in Ghansoli’s Gavalidev area has been officially transferred from the Forest Department to the Municipal Corporation (NMMC). The project aims to transform the scenic zone into a sustainable natural tourist destination, balancing ecological preservation with the development of visitor-friendly infrastructure.

In a major move to boost tourism in Navi Mumbai, 10,000 square meters of land in the Gavalidev area of Ghansoli has been handed over by the Forest Department to the Municipal Corporation (NMMC).

This land will be developed into a natural tourist destination, with the goal of preserving the area’s scenic beauty while creating high-quality infrastructure for visitors.

NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde Conducts Site Inspection of Development Works

NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde recently carried out an on-site inspection of ongoing development projects, emphasizing the need for sustainable and visually appealing urban growth. Accompanied by City Engineer Shirish Aradwad, Executive Engineer Yashwant Kapse, and representatives from the architectural and contracting teams, Dr. Shinde reviewed the progress and issued key directives to ensure timely execution and adherence to quality standards.

Gavalidev, nestled in the Sahyadri hill ranges within the MIDC region of Ghansoli, holds deep traditional and cultural significance. During the monsoon season, it becomes a popular destination for nature enthusiasts from Navi Mumbai and Mumbai. Acknowledging its growing appeal, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has launched a development project to transform the area into a full-fledged natural tourist attraction. This initiative, undertaken under the District Planning Committee’s Tourism Development Scheme, has been allocated a budget of ₹5 crore.

The project encompasses the development of paved walkways, gazebos, portable toilets, stone structures, gabion walls, a rainwater drainage system, directional signage, electrification, and water pipelines,” stated Dr. Shinde. “At present, 25% of the gabion wall construction has been completed.”

After recently reviewing the detailed site plan, Dr. Shinde recommended the use of locally sourced natural stone in place of artificial materials to help preserve the area’s ecological balance.

He also directed that proper drainage channels be built on both sides of the steps and walkways to ensure effective rainwater management ahead of the monsoon season. Additionally, he emphasized the need to provide drinking water and clean sanitation facilities at multiple points along the tourist route.

The commissioner stressed that the development of Gavalidev should prioritize the use of natural materials, allowing visitors to experience the tranquility of nature while enjoying essential amenities for a comfortable and relaxing outdoor visit.
