A nose pin turned out to be the crucial clue in solving the mysterious death of a 47-year-old woman whose body was discovered in a drain in Delhi nearly a month ago. The police have arrested her husband, Anil Kumar, a property dealer based in Delhi, on suspicion of murder.
On March 15, a woman’s body was recovered from a drain in the city. It was wrapped in a bedsheet and weighed down with a stone and a cement sack. With little else to go on, investigators noticed a nose pin still on the body — an item that would eventually lead them to the suspect.
Tracing the nose pin to a jewellery store in South Delhi, police examined purchase records and discovered it had been bought by Anil Kumar. The bill was registered under his name, which led police to his residence — a farmhouse in Gurugram.
The woman was soon identified as Seema Singh, Kumar’s wife of 20 years. When questioned, Mr. Kumar claimed that Seema had gone to Vrindavan and was not carrying her phone, raising suspicion among the investigators.
Digging further, police visited Kumar’s office in Dwarka, where they found a diary containing a contact number for Seema’s family. Her sister, Babita, told police they had last heard from Seema on March 11. When they reached out to Kumar, he reportedly told them Seema was in Jaipur and was unwilling to speak. He assured them that she would get in touch once she felt better.
The family, growing increasingly concerned, hesitated to involve the police due to Kumar’s repeated reassurances. However, on April 1, authorities called them in to identify a woman’s body — it was Seema Singh. Her elder son also confirmed the identity the next day. According to the post-mortem report cited by the family, Seema had been strangled to death.
Relatives also noted that only Seema and Anil Kumar had keys to their Dwarka residence, raising further doubts about Kumar’s version of events.
Following the investigation, police arrested Anil Kumar and his security guard, Shiv Shankar, in connection with the crime.
The case is ongoing as investigators continue to piece together the events leading to Seema Singh’s tragic death.
