PM Modi Urges Citizens to Embrace Nine Resolutions Inspired by Jain Teachings
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a global audience from 108 countries at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on the occasion of Vishwa Navkar Maha Mantra Divas, called on citizens to adopt nine key resolutions aligned with the principles of Jainism. The event celebrated the universal values of simplicity, sustainability, and compassion, which PM Modi said have long guided Jain communities and now resonate with India’s broader environmental and cultural goals.
Highlighting his government’s commitment to preserving India’s ancient wisdom, the Prime Minister cited initiatives such as the digitisation of ancient Jain texts and the recognition of Pali and Prakrit as classical languages.
“In keeping with the ideals of Jain philosophy, India launched ‘Mission LiFE’—Lifestyle for Environment—which promotes sustainable living. The Jain community has exemplified this ethos for generations through restraint, simplicity, and environmental consciousness,” PM Modi said.
He outlined the nine resolutions as follows:
- Water Conservation – Emphasizing the critical need to save water resources.
- Tree Plantation – Encouraging individuals to plant trees in the name of their mothers; over 1 billion trees have been planted nationwide in recent years.
- Cleanliness Mission – Reinforcing the importance of cleanliness and sanitation.
- Vocal for Local – Urging people to identify and replace foreign products with locally-made alternatives.
- Domestic Tourism – Promoting travel within India to foster deeper national understanding and pride.
- Natural Farming – Advocating for environmentally friendly and sustainable agricultural practices.
- Healthy Lifestyle – Encouraging the adoption of wellness-oriented daily habits.
The remaining two resolutions, though not explicitly detailed in the initial speech excerpt, are expected to be in alignment with the themes of social responsibility and national development.
PM Modi’s message was a call to action for citizens to internalize values that contribute to individual well-being and collective national progress, drawing inspiration from India’s rich spiritual and cultural heritage.
