Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) suffered a six-wicket defeat at the hands of a confident Delhi Capitals (DC) side on Thursday in their IPL 2025 clash at home. Despite a promising start with the ball, RCB couldn’t contain Delhi’s charge, led by a masterclass from KL Rahul, who remained unbeaten on 93 to seal the chase with 13 balls to spare.
Defending a modest total of 163, RCB made early inroads by dismissing DC’s top three for just 30 runs. However, Rahul, playing on his childhood home ground in Bengaluru, steadied the innings before unleashing a flurry of strokes to guide his team to victory — maintaining DC’s unbeaten run in the tournament.
What caught viewers’ attention, though, was not just the on-field action. During the latter stages of the match, cameras caught Virat Kohli in an animated discussion with RCB coach Dinesh Karthik. The incident, broadcast live, quickly went viral, sparking speculation about Kohli’s dissatisfaction with some tactical decisions — possibly directed at RCB skipper Rajat Patidar.
Commentators Aakash Chopra and Virender Sehwag weighed in during the telecast, pointing out that if Kohli had concerns, those should be communicated directly to the captain — especially since Kohli no longer holds that position.
Some fans on social media also noted Kohli engaging in conversations with coach Karthik and veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, possibly reviewing the team’s approach during crucial phases of the game. However, the exact reason behind Kohli’s visible frustration remains unconfirmed.
After the match, Patidar acknowledged the team’s batting failure and admitted that poor decision-making cost them the game.
“We thought it was a good batting wicket, but we didn’t assess the situation well. Going from 80 for 1 to 90 for 4 — that’s just not acceptable,” Patidar said in the post-match presentation.
“The batters showed intent and were in a good frame of mind, but we lost momentum. The way Tim David accelerated late was great, and the bowling in the powerplay was special. But we need to keep things simple and focus on playing better cricket.”
With the defeat, RCB now sit third on the points table, while DC continue their dominant run at the top of the IPL 2025 standings.
