State Bank of India (SBI) has announced a scheduled maintenance activity during the early hours of Saturday, October 11, 2025. As part of the exercise, several digital banking services will remain temporarily unavailable between 1:10 AM and 2:10 AM (IST).
According to a tweet from SBI, services such as Unified Payments Interface (UPI), Immediate Payment Service (IMPS), You Only Need One (YONO), Internet Banking, National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT), and Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) will be affected during the one-hour maintenance window. Normal operations are expected to resume immediately after 2:10 AM on October 11, 2025.
SBI has requested its customers to plan their transactions accordingly. During the downtime, users can continue to access ATM services and UPI Lite for essential transactions, the bank said.
What is UPI Lite?

UPI Lite is a payment solution, which is designed to process low-value transactions that are below Rs 1,000 in a faster and pinless manner. The UPI Lite balance should be treated as equivalent to cash, and the user will be responsible for the balance loaded in the LITE account.
UPI Lite limit

The UPI LITE limits are Rs 1,000 per transaction with a total limit of Rs 5,000.
SBI’s announcement comes shortly after SBI’s digital payment network faced technical disruptions earlier this week, affecting UPI transactions for several users.
On October 7, the bank posted on X (formerly Twitter) that it was “facing intermittent technical issues in SBI UPI”, which resulted in temporary declines in UPI transactions. SBI had advised customers to continue using UPI Lite for smoother transactions during the outage.
What’s Happening?

The State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest public sector bank, has issued an important notification for its customers regarding a planned service interruption. On October 11, 2025 (Friday), SBI will be conducting scheduled maintenance activities, during which several digital banking services will be temporarily unavailable.
The maintenance window is expected to last for one hour, specifically from 1:10 AM to 2:10 AM IST.
Which Services Will Be Affected?

During this one-hour maintenance period, the following key services will be unavailable:
- Unified Payments Interface (UPI)
- Immediate Payment Service (IMPS)
- National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT)
- Internet Banking
- YONO App Transactions
- ATM Card-to-Card Transfers (select functions)
This means customers will not be able to:
- Send or receive UPI payments
- Transfer funds through NEFT or IMPS
- Access or perform transactions on SBI YONO
- Use SBI Net Banking for transactions
What Will Still Work?

SBI has confirmed that basic ATM services (such as cash withdrawal and balance enquiry) and credit/debit card transactions at PoS terminals (for most merchants) will continue to function normally during the downtime.
However, customers may face intermittent issues when performing digital or mobile transactions, especially those involving real-time transfers.
Why the Downtime?

SBI conducts such periodic maintenance to:
- Upgrade backend systems
- Improve the stability and speed of digital platforms
- Implement enhanced security features
- Ensure smooth user experience in high-traffic situations
The bank has reassured customers that these upgrades are part of their commitment to provide secure and seamless banking services across platforms.
Official Communication

Here’s what SBI stated in its official message to customers:
“We will be undertaking scheduled maintenance activities on October 11, 2025, between 01:10 hrs to 02:10 hrs IST, during which certain services may not be available. We regret the inconvenience and request our customers to plan transactions accordingly.”
hat Should Customers Do?

- Plan Ahead: If you have important fund transfers, UPI payments, or online transactions to complete, it’s advisable to do so before 1:00 AM on October 11.
- Avoid High-Risk Transactions: During the maintenance window, avoid critical payments like bill settlements, EMI transfers, or ticket bookings to prevent failures or delays.
- Keep Alternative Options Ready: Use cards or cash for payments during this short outage.
Why This Matters

SBI serves over 45 crore customers and operates more than 22,000 branches and 65,000 ATMs across India. It also has a major presence in the digital payments ecosystem, with platforms like:
- YONO (You Only Need One)
- SBI Net Banking
- SBI Quick
- BHIM SBI Pay
Any disruption, even for an hour, can affect millions of users, especially businesses, late-night service providers, and users reliant on 24/7 banking.
Expert Perspective

Digital banking expert and fintech consultant Ravi Menon commented on such outages:
“Short maintenance windows are essential to maintain the integrity of India’s massive digital banking infrastructure. However, regular communication and transparency from banks are key to retaining customer trust.”
Similar Past Incidents

This isn’t the first such downtime for SBI:
- In May 2025, SBI conducted a 2-hour system upgrade during the night, which also disrupted UPI and IMPS transfers.
- In December 2024, many customers reported failed YONO transactions due to backend server issues during unplanned maintenance.
Final Word

While the downtime is brief, it serves as a reminder of how critical digital infrastructure has become in our daily lives. For a bank as large as SBI, regular upgrades are necessary—but timely customer notifications and contingency planning are equally important.
SBI has urged users to complete important transactions ahead of time and avoid last-minute usage during the maintenance window. With proper preparation, the impact on users should remain minimal.
