Trump responded after Kyiv announced its willingness to accept a 30-day ceasefire with Moscow, following discussions with U.S. representatives in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday Uk
On Wednesday, former US President Donald Trump welcomed Ukraine’s decision to agree to a ceasefire with Russia and expressed hope that Moscow would respond positively. His remarks followed Kyiv’s announcement of its willingness to accept a 30-day ceasefire after discussions with US representatives in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday.
Trump expressed sorrow over the ongoing loss of soldiers and civilians on both sides in the Russia-Ukraine war, which has continued for over three years. Emphasizing the urgency of ending the conflict, he stated that a ceasefire was “very important” to bring stability to the region.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that a Ukraine ceasefire had been agreed upon recently. He stated that the next step is engaging with Russia, expressing hope that President Vladimir Putin will also accept the agreement. Highlighting the ongoing violence, Trump emphasized the urgency of ending the war as civilians continue to be affected by explosions across various cities.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump emphasized the significance of a total ceasefire, stating that Ukraine has agreed to it and expressing hope that Russia will follow suit. “The ceasefire is very important. If we can get Russia to agree, that would be great. If not, the conflict will continue, and many lives will be lost,” Trump said, as reported by ANI.
Earlier, Ukraine endorsed a U.S.-proposed 30-day ceasefire and agreed to engage in immediate negotiations with Russia, marking a potential turning point after three years of intense warfare.

During the Jeddah talks on Tuesday, advisers to former U.S. President Donald Trump urged further discussions with Ukrainian officials, ultimately securing Kyiv’s agreement to a proposed ceasefire. The move aims to pause the ongoing conflict, which has claimed tens of thousands of lives.
“We presented an offer today that the Ukrainians have accepted—to enter into a ceasefire and begin immediate negotiations,” U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters following approximately nine hours of discussions, as reported by Reuters.
Rubio expressed on X that Ukraine’s preparedness and willingness for a ceasefire marked significant progress toward lasting peace.
“Today was a positive day for peace. Thanks to the leadership of the President and the generous hospitality of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, we have moved one step closer to achieving a durable peace for Ukraine. The next move is now up to Russia,” Rubio stated.

After receiving a positive response from Ukraine, the US has decided to lift the pause on intelligence sharing and resume security assistance.
“The President wanted this war to end as soon as possible. Our hope is that Russia will quickly agree, allowing us to move to the next phase—genuine negotiations,” Rubio told reporters, referring to Trump.
This marks the first engagement between both sides since a heated exchange between Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and former U.S. President Donald Trump in the Oval Office last month.
Senator Marco Rubio stated that if Russia refuses to engage, it will clearly indicate the obstacle to achieving peace, referring to the full-scale invasion launched by Russia against Ukraine in February 2022.
Meanwhile, Trump announced plans to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin this week and revealed that he would be inviting Ukrainian President Zelenskyy back to the White House for further discussions.

Ukraine Ready for Ceasefire with Russia, Hopes Putin Will Agree, Says Donald Trump
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has welcomed Ukraine’s decision to agree to a ceasefire following peace talks in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, expressing hope that Russia will also accept the agreement.
Emphasizing the devastating toll of the conflict, Trump described the ongoing war as “horrible,” highlighting the loss of lives on both sides. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday (local time), he underscored the importance of securing a ceasefire to prevent further casualties.
“Ukraine has just agreed to a ceasefire, and now we need Russia to do the same. Hopefully, President Putin will also agree, so we can bring an end to this terrible war,” Trump stated. He noted that while no American soldiers are involved, both Ukrainian and Russian troops, as well as civilians, are suffering due to the continued violence. “Explosions are tearing through cities, and innocent people are being killed. It’s crucial to put an end to this war,” he added.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump emphasized the significance of the proposed ceasefire, stating that it marks a major shift from previous discussions at the Oval Office. He noted that Ukraine has agreed to the ceasefire terms, and efforts are underway to secure Russia’s approval. “We’re meeting later today and tomorrow, hoping to finalize a deal. A ceasefire is crucial—if Russia agrees, it’ll be great. If not, the conflict continues, and more lives will be lost,” he remarked.
Trump’s statement follows Ukraine’s willingness to accept a U.S.-backed proposal for an “immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire,” which could be extended if both parties agree. However, its implementation depends on Russia’s concurrent approval. In response, the U.S. has committed to lifting its pause on intelligence sharing and resuming security assistance to Ukraine.
