A tragic incident occurred near Mumbra railway station, where several passengers traveling towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai fell from a moving train. According to Central Railways, 13 people sustained injuries in the mishap.

Eight Passengers Fall from Overcrowded Local Train Near Mumbra

On Monday, June 9, officials reported that eight passengers fell from an overcrowded local train near Mumbra railway station in Maharashtra. “An incident occurred in which eight individuals travelling on a local train from Mumbra to Diva fell off the train,” an official confirmed.

Thirteen people have been injured so far. We have not received any reports of fatalities at this time,” said Swapnil Dhanraj Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway.

Meanwhile, Central Railways stated that the accident is believed to have been caused by overcrowding on the train.

Central Railways reported that several passengers traveling towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai fell from a train near Mumbra railway station in Thane.

The railway authorities and police have arrived at the scene,” the statement said.

The injured were promptly taken to the nearest hospital for treatment. Central Railways has confirmed that an investigation into the incident is currently underway.

According to Swapnil Dhanraj Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, the Mumbra train tragedy occurred when passengers hanging onto the footboards of two passing trains collided with each other. Preliminary information indicates that one train was heading toward Kasara, while the other was bound for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai.

Passengers who were traveling on the footboards of two local trains—one heading towards Kasara and the other towards CSMT—collided with each other, causing eight people to fall,” he said.

The official clarified that it was not a collision. He explained that the incident occurred when passengers standing on the footboards of trains moving in opposite directions became entangled with each other.

The distance between the two trains is typically 1.5 to 2 meters, but on curves, a slight tilt occurs, which could have contributed to the incident,” he explained.

Swapnil Nila added that the guard of the Kasara-bound train reported the presence of injured passengers along the track to the control room at around 9:30 am.

At least three passengers are feared dead, and several others injured after falling from a crowded moving train in Maharashtra on Monday morning, according to a police official cited by news agency PTI.

Officials reported that at least six passengers were found injured along the fast line railway track between Mumbra and Diva stations in Thane district. It is believed that these individuals fell from the moving train, the officials added.
