The injured were promptly taken to the nearest hospital for treatment. Central Railways has confirmed that an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
According to Swapnil Dhanraj Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, the Mumbra train tragedy occurred when passengers hanging onto the footboards of two passing trains collided with each other. Preliminary information indicates that one train was heading toward Kasara, while the other was bound for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai.
Passengers who were traveling on the footboards of two local trains—one heading towards Kasara and the other towards CSMT—collided with each other, causing eight people to fall,” he said.
The official clarified that it was not a collision. He explained that the incident occurred when passengers standing on the footboards of trains moving in opposite directions became entangled with each other.
The distance between the two trains is typically 1.5 to 2 meters, but on curves, a slight tilt occurs, which could have contributed to the incident,” he explained.
Swapnil Nila added that the guard of the Kasara-bound train reported the presence of injured passengers along the track to the control room at around 9:30 am.
