Rath Yatra 2025 begins today in Puri with grand celebrations and tight security. Authorities have deployed surveillance, police forces, and anti-drone teams to ensure the safety of devotees during Mahaprabhu’s sacred journey.

A massive crowd has gathered in Puri as the iconic Jagannath Rath Yatra is set to begin this Friday. The annual festival draws lakhs of devotees from across the country.
District Magistrate Siddharth Swain and Superintendent of Police Vineet Agarwal have assured that extensive preparations are in place to ensure the event is conducted safely and smoothly.
Authorities have assured that robust security arrangements are in place for the Yatra.
Puri District Magistrate Siddharth Swain, speaking to ANI, said, “All three chariots have been positioned at their designated spots for the Gundicha Yatra. Comprehensive security measures have been implemented, with the presence of elite forces including the NSG ensuring a safe and smooth event.
Today marks the grand celebration of Mahaprabhu’s Rath Yatra in Puri.
Thousands of devotees are expected to gather to witness this divine event. To ensure a smooth and safe Yatra, extensive preparations have been made by the police and administration.
All necessary arrangements for public safety, crowd management, and convenience are in place. Special attention has been given to traffic regulation to facilitate movement. Central agencies are also extending full support.
With coordinated efforts at every level, the Rath Yatra is set to proceed seamlessly, allowing devotees to participate in the spiritual journey without concerns.
Our surveillance teams will continue to be stationed at the Integrated Control Room. In addition, specialized anti-drone units are active on the ground. Today alone, three unauthorized drones were neutralized. Any drone activity not classified as friendly will be dealt with strictly,” said Puri SP Vineet Agarwal.

Pooja Anand, a devotee from Mumbai, shared:
“This experience feels truly out of this world. I’ve been a devoted follower for 20 years, but this is my first time here—and it’s nothing short of divine. I’m filled with the desire to pull the Lord’s chariot myself. This is that one sacred day when the Lord steps out to bless the entire universe. Everyone should witness this and seek His blessings. The weather has been beautiful too—it rained all night, making the atmosphere even more serene.”

Rath Yatra 2025: Heightened Security Measures in Puri
With massive crowds expected for the grand Rath Yatra, Odisha DGP Y B Khurania confirmed that extensive security arrangements have been put in place. Both civil and police administrations are on high alert to ensure the safety of lakhs of devotees set to participate in the annual spiritual event.

More than 275 AI-powered CCTV cameras have been installed across Puri and along the 35-km route to Konark, home to the iconic 13th-century Sun Temple, to enhance surveillance.
Additionally, the Director General of Police (DGP) stated that NSG snipers will be stationed on rooftops along the Grand Road, facing the temple. The security setup also includes police drones, anti-sabotage units, bomb disposal squads, and dog squads. Meanwhile, the Marine Police, Indian Coast Guard, and Navy will be securing the coastal areas.
Meanwhile, the IMD, in its evening bulletin, has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph, likely to affect several districts, including Puri, on Friday.
