AI Startup CEO Suchana Seth, Accused of Filicide, Booked for Assaulting Woman Constable in Goa Prison
Suchana Seth, the CEO of a Bengaluru-based artificial intelligence startup who was arrested in January 2024 for the alleged murder of her four-year-old son in a Goa hotel, has now been booked for assaulting a female constable inside the Central Jail where she remains in custody.
According to Goa Police, the incident occurred on Monday when Seth allegedly took the inward register from the women’s prisoner block without authorization. When questioned, she reportedly abused the constable using offensive language and physically assaulted her, including kicking, pulling her hair, and causing bodily harm.
An FIR has been registered against Seth under Sections 121(1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter a public servant from discharging duty) and 352 (assault or use of criminal force otherwise than on grave provocation) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
Seth has been incarcerated since her arrest from Chitradurga, Karnataka, earlier this year following the discovery of her son’s body inside a suitcase. The child was found during a police search of Seth’s belongings after hotel staff in Candolim, North Goa, discovered suspicious bloodstains in her room and reported the matter to authorities.
Investigations revealed that Seth had checked into Hotel Sol Banyan Grande with her son on January 6, 2024, and was scheduled to stay until January 10. However, she informed the hotel staff on January 7 that she needed to leave early due to urgent work in Bengaluru. Despite suggestions from the hotel to take a flight, she insisted on traveling by taxi.
Hotel staff grew suspicious when Seth checked out without her son and was seen carrying a heavy suitcase. Upon cleaning the room, staff found bloodstains and alerted the Calangute Police. When questioned, Seth initially claimed the blood was due to menstruation and that her child was staying with a friend in Margao — a claim later proven false.
Following a tip from the taxi driver, police intercepted the vehicle and recovered the child’s body from the suitcase. Seth was immediately taken into custody, and a Calangute Police team traveled to Chitradurga to formally arrest her.
Authorities allege that the murder may have occurred amid a custody dispute with her estranged husband. Seth has been charged under Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as Section 8 of the Goa Children’s Act.
The new assault charge further complicates her legal situation as she awaits trial.
