Fresh violence erupted in Murshidabad on Friday as protests against the Waqf law intensified, leading to the ransacking of a Trinamool Congress (TMC) Member of Parliament’s office. The unrest, which has been simmering for weeks, took a violent turn once again, prompting the deployment of Border Security Force (BSF) personnel to restore order in the affected areas.
Eyewitnesses reported that hundreds of protesters took to the streets in various parts of Murshidabad, expressing their anger over alleged irregularities and land disputes related to the Waqf properties. The situation escalated when a mob targeted the office of a local TMC MP, vandalizing furniture, breaking windows, and damaging official records.

Authorities have imposed Section 144 in parts of Murshidabad to prevent further gatherings. The district administration has also appealed for calm and assured the public that grievances related to Waqf properties will be looked into through proper legal channels.Waqf Law
Reacting to the incident, the TMC leadership condemned the violence but emphasized the need for dialogue. “We understand the people’s concerns, but vandalism and violence are not the solution. The government is open to discussion and ready to resolve the issue lawfully,” a senior TMC leader said.
Opposition parties, meanwhile, have accused the state government of negligence and called for an independent probe into the Waqf-related disputes.
This marks the second major flare-up in the district over the controversial law in recent months, raising concerns over communal tension and law and order in the region. Security forces remain on high alert as the situation continues to be monitored closely.Waqf Law
