India-Pakistan Tensions Escalate: PM Modi Holds High-Level Security Meeting Amid Ongoing Drone Attacks
Pakistan launched drone attacks on 26 Indian sites for a second consecutive night on Friday, with key assets, including airports and airbases, remaining secure, according to the Ministry of Defence.
In response to the escalating situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level security meeting on Saturday at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg. Present at the meeting were Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, the Chief of Defence Staff, and the heads of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
This meeting followed heavy shelling by Pakistani forces in Rajouri earlier that day, resulting in the death of Additional District Development Commissioner Raj Kumar Thapa and causing civilian casualties and destruction.
The conflict has intensified, with both sides continuing to target each other’s military facilities. India’s armed forces have issued proportionate and appropriate responses to Pakistan’s actions.

On Saturday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh addressed the media regarding the ongoing tensions. Misri described Pakistan’s actions as “escalatory” and “provocative” and emphasized India’s measured response to these provocations.
He presented evidence to debunk Pakistan’s misinformation campaign, which falsely claimed significant damage to Indian military infrastructure. Misri dismissed these allegations, calling them part of a wider disinformation strategy.
Wing Commander Vyomika Singh specifically refuted claims regarding damage to India’s S-400 systems in Adampur, airfields in Suratgarh and Sirsa, the BrahMos unit in Nagrota, and artillery positions in Dehrangyari and Chandigarh.
Colonel Sofiya Qureshi noted that Pakistani forces are shifting troops to forward positions, signaling further escalation along the border.
On Friday night, Pakistani drones targeted locations in Ferozepur and Jalandhar in Punjab, resulting in civilian injuries and property damage. Later, 26 drone strikes were launched across India, from Jammu and Kashmir to Gujarat. Despite the attacks, critical assets were successfully protected, including airports and airbases.
This escalation follows India’s precision strikes on terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on Wednesday, which were carried out in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam attack linked to cross-border terrorism.
