Chennai, April 12, 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended strong support to the BJP-AIADMK alliance ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, declaring that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is poised to “uproot the corrupt and divisive DMK government.” His statement marks a significant political development in the state, where the BJP has been steadily trying to expand its footprint.

Addressing party workers and leaders during a virtual meeting with the Tamil Nadu BJP unit, PM Modi hailed the renewed alliance with the AIADMK as a “powerful force for development, unity, and good governance.
” He emphasized that the people of Tamil Nadu are “fed up” with the current DMK government, which he accused of promoting corruption, dynastic politics, and divisiveness.
“The people of Tamil Nadu want change. They are tired of the misrule, the empty promises, and the politics of appeasement. The NDA, with the BJP and AIADMK working together, will bring a government that respects Tamil pride and delivers on development,” PM Modi said.

The announcement signals a revival of the BJP-AIADMK partnership, which had seen strains in the past over seat-sharing and ideological differences. However, with the 2026 elections approaching, both parties appear to be aligning strategically to take on the DMK, which swept to power in 2021.
Senior AIADMK leaders welcomed the Prime Minister’s remarks, calling the alliance a “natural partnership” rooted in mutual respect and shared goals. Former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, who was present at the meeting, said the alliance would “work together to save Tamil Nadu from the clutches of the DMK’s corrupt rule.”
The DMK, meanwhile, dismissed the remarks as “desperate” and accused the BJP of attempting to polarize voters in the state. A party spokesperson said that the people of Tamil Nadu will not fall for “empty rhetoric and northern impositions.”
As the political temperature begins to rise in Tamil Nadu, the stage is set for an intense battle in 2026. With the BJP throwing its weight behind the AIADMK and aiming to make deeper inroads in the state, the alliance will seek to consolidate anti-DMK sentiment and pitch a development-driven narrative to voters.
